How you’ll make an impact
Sano Genetics is a small, fast-moving team, and finance is the engine room that keeps it running. As our Finance Manager you'll own the day-to-day finance operations end-to-end, from bookkeeping through to month-end close and reporting, giving leadership the accurate, timely numbers they need to make good decisions.
This is a highly operational, hands-on role where you'll take real ownership from day one, working closely with our external accountants and cross-functionally with the wider team. It's broad by design, so you'll get exposure across many areas of finance and business operations, with genuine scope to grow your responsibilities as the company scales.
We are open to candidates seeking either full-time or 4 days/week.
What you'll do
Own month-end close end-to-end, including bookkeeping, journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations, delivering accurate and timely numbers.
Run finance operations day-to-day: customer invoicing, supplier payments, expenses and credit control.
Manage the monthly payroll process in collaboration with the People team and our external accountants.
Produce budget vs. actuals reporting and maintain our cashflow reporting, giving leadership clear visibility on performance.
Support VAT returns, year-end statutory accounts, tax filings and R&D claims, working with external advisors.
Maintain and improve our existing finance automation and processes so they stay fit-for-purpose as we grow.
Support share option administration, issuance and reporting.
Act as a reliable finance point of contact for the business on operational matters.
This job is for you if you
Have startup or scale-up experience: you've personally owned finance processes in a small business (roughly sub-100 people) with limited support functions, and you're comfortable working with ambiguity and shifting priorities.
Have hands-on Xero experience and are confident operating in it day-to-day, not just familiar with it.
Have proven ownership of the full month-end close cycle, including balance sheet reconciliations, done independently rather than as part of a larger team.
Have solid, hands-on experience with bookkeeping, invoicing, supplier payments and payroll.
Are either fully qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or strong qualified-by-experience with a clear track record of owning close and finance operations.
Are comfortable and confident with Excel or Google Sheets.
Have a bias for automation and improving processes to make finance more scalable.
Bring strong ownership, attention to detail and clear communication, and are happy to work autonomously.
Even better if you have
Exposure to SaaS or services businesses with a mix of recurring and project-based revenue.
Experience with multi-entity or multi-currency accounting (UK/US).
Familiarity with share option schemes or R&D tax claims.
This role is unlikely to be a great match if:
You're looking for a purely FP&A, reporting-only or strategic finance role.
You are uncomfortable owning operational finance tasks directly (bookkeeping, invoicing, payments, payroll).
You prefer highly structured roles with limited variety or cross-functional work.
Why Join Sano?
Work on programmes that directly impact patients and accelerate precision medicine.
Collaborate with a highly motivated, mission-driven team.
Influence the future direction of genetics-enabled healthcare.
Flexible remote working environment.
Competitive salary and benefits package.
Opportunity to make a meaningful impact during a critical period of company growth.
Research shows that some people are less likely to apply for a role unless they are 100% qualified. Your experience, skills and passion will set you apart so tell us about your achievements, irrespective of whether they are personal or work-related, tell us about your journey, and about what you learnt.
So, if this role excites you, don't let our role description hold you back, get applying!

About Sano Genetics
At Sano, our mission is simple but ambitious: to accelerate the future of personalised medicine.
Finding, screening, and engaging patients for clinical trials is often slow, siloed, and inefficient - leading to higher costs, longer timelines, and treatments that never reach the people who need them. We’re changing that.
Sano is the only 360° platform that connects every step of the process; making research faster, more cost-effective, and more inclusive. Our tech-forward, human-first approach empowers Pharma, Biotechs, and patient organisations to run studies digitally and at home, giving patients more choice and a better experience.
We’re growing fast, and we’re building a team of curious, mission-driven people who want their work to have real impact on the future of medicine.
